A tragic four vehicle pile up wreck in South Carolina this past Saturday, August 6th, 2011, resulted in the deaths of three drivers.
Jeremy Wilson, 33 years old and from Blacksburg, S.C., was traveling south on I-85 to Lake Hartwell in the mid morning hours. Wilson was on his was to fish for the day. He was driving his Toyota Tundra pickup truck that was towing his boat. As he was driving, an 18-wheeler tractor-trailer driven by Eddie Wyatt of Rockmart, Georgia swerved sharply left. Catching Wilson’s truck, the tractor-trailer dragged Wilson’s truck and a Toyota 4Runner with it across the median into the northbound lanes, in the process hitting another 18-wheeler driven by 38 year old Clay Johnson.
Beverly and Curtis Schultz of Simpsonville, S.C, who were in the 4Runner, survived the crash. They were treated for minor injures at a Greenville, S.C. hospital.
After graduating from Campbell University law school in 2003, Jeremy Wilson earned his first job at the Jonas Law Firm. He was a partner with the firm. He was hired to help Rep. Johnathan Rhyne, a close colleague, with his family law caseload before he was made partner. Rep. Rhyne shared his thoughts: “He [Jerem] was a very fine lawyer. He had a great combination of intellect and dependability. His clients loved him and depended on him. We deal with people whose marriages aren’t going well, and they need to have someone to assure them and tell them it’s going to be alright. Jeremy had a talent for putting them at ease.”
According to WCNC News, Johnson’s cab was separated from the rest of his rig resulting in the cab tumbling off the road and down a hill. All three drivers – Wilson, Wyatt and Johnson – were killed instantly in the tractor trailer crash.
According to Josh Shore, an Anderson County deputy coroner, investigators were told that the truck driven by Wyatt started weaving left and right, before the truck took a hard swerve left. Our thoughts are with the family members.
