This past Sunday, a collision near the boarder between Decatur and Baker counties in Georgia occurred around 2 a.m., reports the Post-Searchlight.
An 18 year old, Sanarious Romero Nelson of Newton was traveling north on Georgia 253 when he drifted across the highway and off the roadway’s west shoulder. He then lost control of his car and made a complete rotation as it went back onto the highway’s southbound lane right into the path of 21 year old Larsen E. Wilkinson of Bainbridge’s car.
Nelson’s front passenger side struck the front end of Wilkinson’s car “causing severe damage to both cars.” The impact of the crash was so great that the engine of Nelson’s car was thrown out and caught on fire as it fell onto the highway.
As a result of this tragic car accident, Wilkinson was taken away by an ambulance to Tallahassee Memorial Hospital in Florida. She was still receiving treatment at the hospital on Tuesday. She had to undergo surgery from having two broken legs she suffered as a result of the crash.
Nelson only suffered minor injuries and was cited with failure to maintain lane, according to State Trooper 1st Class Walt Landrum of Georgia State Patrol Colquitt post.
This is tragic and our thoughts are with those injured and their families.
