A college baseball team from the state of Ohio was involved in a very serious bus accident which has left 6 dead and dozens of others injured. The accident occurred on Atlanta Georgia’s highway I-75 at the Northside Drive exit. The bus was traveling in the HOV lane and crashed through a retaining wall shortly before descending down onto the southbound lane of traffic below. Law enforcement said either the bus driver made no to stop the vehicle or their was some sort of mechanical failure because no skid marks were noted at the scene of the accident. The drive of the bus was killed instantly along with his wife who was also on board. Four other occupants subsequently died in the tragic Atlanta Georgia bus accident but their names have not yet been released.

Approximately 29 other players who sustained injuries from the bus accident were taken to Grady Memorial Hospital, Atlanta Medical Center, and/or Piedmont Hospital via local MARTA buses that aided in the crisis.

According to the ajc.com:

Survivors have spoken with investigators and told police the bus was travelling at highway speed as it attempted to negotiate the turn onto Northside Drive, crossed several lanes of traffic and crashed through a retaining wall and fence before falling down onto the southbound lanes of the interstate. Survivors said most passengers were asleep, but the driver was “fresh,” having taken the wheel about 4:30 a.m., one hour before the crash.

An electronic device on the bus will be used to determine more about the accident, said an official with the National Transportation Safety Board, which is investigating the wreck along with local authorities.

There was no indication drugs or alcohol were a cause of the crash, police said.

“This is a sad tragedy for the students, families, friends and Bluffton University campus community. We are asking for prayers of support during this time,” said Bluffton University President James M. Harder.”

An investigation is being conducted by the local authorities and the National Transportation Safety Board to determine what caused the bus accident to occur. The bus’ black box should help provide answers to the many questions that are still being asked about this accident. As more developments are uncovered they will be more aptly discussed here. My heart and prayers goes out to those on board and their families through the tragic and difficult time.
