A drunk driving rollover crash on Sunday night has caused serious injuries to a four-year-old child and the driver of the vehicle, both of whom remain in critical condition. Another young passenger—a five-year-old—was also involved in the accident, although information on that child’s condition is so far unavailable.

The crash is a sobering reminder of how serious of a problem drunk driving continues to be. The driver of the vehicle in the single car accident was Chasity Weston, a 27 year old who now faces charges of driving under the influence of alcohol. Sadly, it is not the first such charge against her. Almost exactly a year ago, Weston faced a driving under the influence charge. Around that same time, she was also charged with driving with a suspended license. In the most recent accident, police report that Weston smelled strongly of the alcohol at the scene of the crash.

Sunday’s crash occurred on Mike Padgett Highway, just south of Horseshoe Road. The vehicle apparently veered off the southbound shoulder, which caused it to roll over. All three passengers—Weston and the two children—were ejected. In addition to the DUI charges, there are also concerns about whether the children were properly restrained in the vehicle and whether Weston was wearing a seatbelt.
