On October 18th, a Tuesday night, a deadly crash occurred on Toccoa Highway in Habersham County.
George State Patrol said that a Dodge pickup truck was traveling on the highway at approximately 6 p.m. when the driver crossed the center line and slammed into a Toyota Camry. It was a head on collision. According to Access North Georgia, the driver of the pickup truck was Peter Colucci. The driver of the Camry was Bernard Trimiar, 30 years old and from Clarkesville.
Trimiar was tragically killed in the deadly head on crash. Colucci was taken to Habersham Medical Center. Police believe slick roads caused by heavy rain may have been a factor; the investigation is being led by the Georgia State Patrol and its Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team.
The site clean up and immediate investigation took four hours causing that stretch of Toccoa Highway to be shut down until 10 pm.
Following the removal of the cars, crews from the Georgia Department of Transportation and Habersham County Road Department spread a truckload of sand across the oil-slickened highway.
Our thoughts are with the family and friends involved in the crash.
