The recent pet food contamination outbreak now has thousands of pet owners concerned about the health of their animals. The recall that has affected thousands of dogs and cats alike, has been attributed to causing renal and organ failure which usually ends in death. The surprising aspect is that the recall contains many high end brands of pet food manufactured and distributed by the mega pet food corporation Menu Foods.

Doctors at Georgia Veterinary Specialists in Sandy Springs say there is a lot of concern among pet owners, although they have no documented cases of pets dying from renal failure due to contaminated pet food

Dr. Derek Duval says the exact toxin that caused the kidney failure is still a mystery, so most sliced meat brands are suspect right now.

“If you’re going with a canned ground meat product your fine and if you’re going with dry you’re certainly fine,” he said.

The outbreak which gained national attention last weekend has reportedly affected hundreds of pets thus far and those numbers are only expected to grow in time. It is a sad realization, but a very serious one everyone with a pet must be aware of and consider.
