Grady Memorial Hospital spokeswoman Denise Simpson, said freshman pitcher Zach Arend, of the Bluffton University baseball team, died today as a result of the injuries he sustained in the tragic bus crash that occurred a week ago today. Arend suffered injuries to his brain, chest, lungs and pelvis as a result of the bus accident and had been fighting for his life ever since his arrival at Grady. His passing marks the seventh person to die as a result of the Atlanta bus crash that occurred on the Northside exit on Georgia’s I-75 after the driver of the bus mistakenly thought the exit was an HOV lane continuation of the interstate. According to Simpson, two other members of the Ohio based college baseball team are still at Grady seeking treatment for their injuries. Our best thoughts and wishes are with Arend’s family and all the others affected by this devastating bus accident.
