Truck Drivers Skipping Sleep Time Can Be Deadly

In a recent study published by WebMD, 1 in every 10 truck drivers may be skipping sleep time to get to their destinations quicker. That means nearly 10% of truck drivers are putting ordinary motorists at risk for serious injuires or death. If that is not enough, according to the study, approximately 5% of these drivers may suffer from severe sleep apnea and not even know they are tired prior to falling asleep at the wheel.

According to CBSNEWS.com

Many of the truckers scored as poorly on the tests as people have after drinking alcohol. That was true of:

About 29 percent on the reaction time test

More than a third on the simulated driving test

About a quarter on the fall asleep test

About 5 percent of the truckers scored that poorly on all three tests.

Driving while you are sleepy is dangerous for anyone driving on the road. It is a leading cause of injury and death for many americans each year-espcially when a tractor trailer is involved. If you have been a victim of a sleepy driver’s negligence contact a personal injury attorney immediately to protect your rights.
