An alcohol related auto accident ends in death in Columbus, Georgia over the Christmas holidays according to the Columbus police department. In the auto accident, Joseph Ryan McConnell, 22, lost control of his vehicle around 3:30 a.m. on Manchester Expressway near Reese Road which subsequently lead to the death of his passenger Rebecca Partain of Midland, Georgia. McConnell was subsequently arrested and charged with DUI and first degree homicide by a vehicle which is a felony in the State of Georgia. McConnell suffered only minor injuries and refused medical treatment at the scene.

Alcohol related accidents unnecessarily cause hundreds of deaths each year on Georgia’s roadways. There is no excuse for someone causing the death of another after driving drunk. Both criminal and civil sanctions are always appropriate when such a thoughtless and careless action is undertaken.
