DUI Driver Runs Stop Sign And Crashes Into Occupied Home

Comments Off

After drunk driver ran a stop sign and crashed his vehicle into her home, a Bulloch County woman, though happy to be alive, is now without a home. Jamie Crunkelton, the former homeowner, said the 28-year-old dui driver, Russell Christopher Daughtry, slammed into her home around 4 a.m. Wednesday morning and forced the residence several feet off its foundation. The Georgia State Patrol, who waited nearly two hours to test the drunk driver, said Daughtry was still way over the legal limit per Georgia law.

“(He) came through the ditch, through the house, without ever hitting his brakes and went and ended up in the woods back there,” said Crunkelton.

The family said he claimed he fell asleep, but troopers said Daughtry registered .114 on a breathalyzer test. That’s legally drunk.

What upset Crunkelton most of all was what would have happened if someone was sleeping in the back bedroom at the time the car crashed into the house.

“They would have certainly been killed,” she said. “Just a few months ago, I lived here and my two year old was sleeping in that room. He’s just lucky he didn’t kill anybody.”

When careless and reckless drivers do things like this they need to be held accountable for the selfish actions. This situation begs for a civil suit to be filed against this dui driver and punitive damages should be sought to punish him for his poor lack of judgment and willful conduct. I assure you a large verdict against him would definitely make him, and others similarly situated, think twice before ever getting behind the wheel again after he has been drinking.
